Apple Smart Battery Case Adds 25 HOURS To iPhone 6s Battery

Apple has launched a case for its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 handsets. But it isn’t any ordinary smartphone case; no, this bad boy has a battery inside it and it will give your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s an additional 25 hours of battery life.

The case is available in either charcoal or white and is made of soft touch silicone and microfiber material. And because the case itself is made and designed by Apple, it will integrate with your iPhone’s software. From the lock screen you will be able to see how much charge the case’s battery has left in it.

Apple has not confirmed what size battery the case uses, however, though this isn’t all that surprising. Apple seldom reveals exact specs for its products although no one really knows why exactly!

Tips to boost your smartphone's battery life

How to boost battery life on your smartphone or tablet?

Here’s the official line via Apple:

“The Smart Battery Case is engineered specifically for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 to give you even longer battery life and protection. The soft microfiber lining on the inside helps protect your iPhone, while the soft elastomer hinge design makes it easy to put the case on and take it off again. On the outside, the silky, soft-touch finish of the silicone exterior feels great in your hand.”

Why did Apple release a battery case? Good question. Could it be to get its punters used to using cases? Perhaps. Apple is apparently looking to release the thinnest smartphone ever produced next year in the form of the iPhone 7 and because it is so thin it is likely Apple will have to squeeze a smaller battery inside it, hence not much in the way of battery performance uplift and the requirement for users to implement cases into their daily routines to get a full day’s heavy use from the phone?

The actual case itself is bloody hideous, though, which makes me think Jony Ive was either A (on holiday when it was designed and passed, or B) the man is losing his touch. Ive also said he was against fitting larger batteries inside the iPhone because, well, they’d probably look a bit like this if that ever happened.

I guess the stance Apple has taken is that the case won’t be used ALL the time, just in emergencies or when you’re away from home without a charger. I can’t imagine Mr. Ive being particularly cool his beloved iPhone design being covered by this monstrosity 24/7!

The Smart Battery Case costs $99 and will be available RIGHT NOW.
